Dear Miss. Tran,
I am Farid Mohammed and I am 16 years old. This year the majority of my courses are sciences and I have interest in pursuing a career in the medical field, not quite absolute yet. I am a huge Barcelona fan and love watching their games. Besides watching it, I love playing the sport, whether it be on-the-road street football. In addition to soccer, in my spare time, I enjoy watching TV, playing video games and listening to music.
Moreover, a couple of things I dislike, particularly in school, are doing a lot of assignments and essays. Instead of these lengthy evaluations, I prefer comprehension and paragraph writing, which are shorter and concise, and where I feel I am much more good in.
This year I took Grade 11 Biology mainly because it is a prerequisite to get into most medical-related university programs, if not all. However, I also took it because I enjoy science as a study and find its diversity intriguing. In terms of Biology, I like the major topics it covers such as genetics, cell theory, human body, etc. Each unit/topic has its own significance. For example, in the genetics unit, it would be awesome to learn about and analyse the different types of data in order to determine the traits a child would inherit from their mother and/or father. I also learnt about cell function and their mechanisms.
In this course I want to be able to fully understand the human body. I want to investigate how the different organs act alongside their counterparts as well as how the different systems are interconnected and allow each other to fully function on an instantaneous basis. In the same manner, I want to learn about cells, the importance of each organelle and how dependant they are on one another. These are just a couple things I want to dive deep into. Not only would it be useful for medical school or university, in the near future, but learning about some of these things will tie into other sciences I am taking this year, a key one being evolution and human anatomy, and it would really be an help for making connections between the two to better understand each respectively. I hope the preparation I require is sought for this semester and my knowledge of science grows.
I believe my strong general knowledge of science will help me excel in biology. A couple of things I could take from my grade 9 and 10 years are the ability to recognize and distinguish different stages of mitosis, ability to work with a microscope and my knowledge of the lab process as well as the basic functionality of the human body. Taking previous knowledge and extending it with the willingness and curiosity to learn will be the ultimate factor in my success this year.
I really hope this semester will be a good, fun and educational one!
Sincerely,
Farid Mohammed
