Dear Miss Tran,
This semester has been quite astounding, but all the bit enlightening. Through the last five months, I was able to gain a strong understanding of things like genotype and phenotype inheritance; creating cladograms, phylogeny trees, and pedigrees; as well as be educated on the different kingdoms of living things, all of which were very intriguing and new. Moreover, I was able to ascertain one of the hardest things in a specialized science class, labs; both conducting the involved experiments and the write-up portion. These are the types of things that would greatly assist me if I were to pursue a career in the biology field or any other science for that matter. For example, being knowledgeable on the topic of fungi would be a huge asset when doing analyses on the specimens, as I would have a strong knowledge base and be able to easily comprehend the subjects.
In regards to your teaching, the analogies you made were well appreciated and helped better my understanding of certain topics, particularly when confused. The comparison you make is well explained and well thought out. They helped simplify the complicated and allowed me to relate concepts to real life. In addition, I liked the fact that you were open to any form of discussion, whether it be a question or comment, and this helped me examine certain things better as well keep an open-mind. Lastly, the hard work put into your PowerPoints is appreciated and it was why information was so easily retained. Through these good learning experiences, I was fairly successful in learning the course content.
More than Biology, I learned the importance of maintaining an organized, prioritized schedule, which would ensure completion of work, at a high level. These were learning strategies that I sought to bring to the course at the beginning of the semester, however they were soon dismayed. The next step for me would be to bring forth my best effort, sleep on time, and study a lot more intuitively, in order to ensure my success. I feel that I have the capability to excel at a top level and that these would only help guide me.
There are many things I believe could be improved upon by you in this course. First and foremost, I believe a reduced work load is crucial in preserving a consistent, focused class. Although it does help you get a taste of university, certain assignments could've have been avoided, such as the leaf lab.I also believe the e-portfolio should be toned down in its toil, so that instead of cramming at the last minute, we could prepare for our exams. Being given the E-Portfolio early on didn’t help because we consistently had assignments from other classes and had to prioritize them as they were due a lot earlier, leaving little to no room for the E-Portfolio.
But nonetheless, Thank you for a very informative year and I hope you enjoyed my time in your class!
Sincerely,
Farid Mohammed
THANK YOU MISS, YOU HAVE BEEN A GREAT TEACHER/FRIEND
